Didn't we all do well with our speculation for Flight!
So....... whether or not there will be another Ripper Street and/or if Flight would be in it.........what are our thought and speculations on what could happen to him now?
We have been left with a very intriguing cliff hanger for his story......Chief Inspector Abberline and Detective Inspector Reid decided not to blow the whistle on Shine who pointed out how it would look that Flight had found his way into H-Division, and the last time we saw Flight he was not behind bars.
How could the story continue? if anyone would prefer to answer that question in fan fic form, please feel free to do so here!
I had it all wrong! I didn't want to believe he was in league with Shine.

Me too!! But it's oh so easy to make excuses for him. lol!
I find it hard to believe that the writers intended to leave Shine out of the next series....far too much unfinished business - he still has his job, and anyway I think he makes an excellent nemesis for Reid! Whether or not they intended to bring Flight back is more doubtful - he could easily just be forgotton....
But, on the other hand....Flight was given a backstory/history and was made into quite a sympathetic character. I think it's perfectly feasible that he could continue at H division. Ried certainly empathised with Flight's feelings of shame...and he has been prepared to overlook Jackson's past. And the end of the series surely demonstrates that Ried is more invested in justice than the word of the law. Reid's strongest reaction to Flight's confession was that he felt betrayed - when Jackson asked what to charge Flight with, rather than saying 'accomplice to murder', Reid answered 'our betrayal' - it was the discovery that Flight had a past which softened his attitude towards him.....the question is whether he would be prepared to offer Flight the opportunity to redeem his trust.
Flight has a good record in the police force, both in Bloomsbury and H division....and his past misdemeanors are presumably only known to a small handful of people. If Shine's assertion to Reid that they weren't very good at record keeping in K division was true....then the chances are that he has just given the only copy of Flight's charge sheet to Reid - who could do with it as he sees fit...! He would only need to convince Abberline....and Flight's knowledge of Shine could be useful to them....
Or perhaps he could become Reid's equivalent of one of Sherlock's Baker Street Boys....
Must admit that if Ripper Street finds a way to continue, and Flight isn't part of it I will be gutted!!!

Hello! Late to the party, only just started watching Ripper Street recently when it was repeated on (I think) the Drama channel.
Has anyone seen series 3? I read it skips a few years, so do we never find out what happened to Flight? Or Shine?

Yeah I watched S3. Besides the fact that I was DEEPLY disappointed they jumped in time and completely disregarded Flight & Shine, I actually did not like the turn the overarching storyline took. Also I didn't watch the last episode! At the time I was forced to watch by non-standard means (my Amazon Prime does not work in the UK and I couldn't even sign up for the UK prime) and the site with good quality videos was taken down so all I had was horrible quality videos. The last episode never got uploaded to there and I never bothered looking for it later. S3 aired on BBCAmerica recently, but I couldn't be bothered.

Despite there being no Flight or Shine, I enjoyed series 3 but there was definitely a difference in series 3, perhaps out to shock more rather than being witty and gritty as the previous two series were. It starts on BBC One on Friday 31 July at 9 pm.
That's a pity, but not entirely unexpected. I wonder if series 3 might have gone differently if the BBC hadn't cancelled it. However, it does give us free reign for speculation and fan fiction!

Awe, my question has been answered about series 3... Disappointed, at least series 3 of suspects acknowledged jacks 'long holiday'....Oh well, is series 3 okay for a sensitive soul?
but there was definitely a difference in series 3, perhaps out to shock more rather than being witty and gritty as the previous two series were.
You may have hit the nail on the head there Rosie! I only got into Ripper Street because Damien was going to be innit, but thoroughly enjoyed S1 just for it's sake. The name implies something gory, dark, and serious, but while it turned out to be very gritty, it wasn't gratuitous horror. And it had that humor that counterbalanced the dark so well. (which incidentally is one of Being Human's strengths) S3 seemed to lack this for me, or at least, there were a couple attempts at it that seemed to be "trying too hard" if that makes sense. (*spoiler* I'm thinking in particular of a scene involving a pig) Even the addition of Louise Brealey didn't rescue it. She was seriously underused (as was Damien in his time) Coupled with feeling that the characters were acting way out of character, and the missing completion to Shine and Flight's storylines, I just didn't care for S3.

Totally agree about the pig, whimsy. Amusing but not in a subtle, clever way. And also agree about Louise Brearly. I did still enjoy it though.
Kallie, I'm not sure about its suitability for a sensitive soul. I thought it was more graphically violent but I don't know how much they will cut for the BBC. Episode 2 particularly was one of the most shocking things I've ever seen.
I also wondered how things might have been different if it had continued to be made by the BBC, Aradia. I think they always planned to move along in years but I wonder if because it was cancelled some of the actors were then unable to commit when it started again which changed the direction of the story.
I love writing Albert Flight fan fiction and can't resist giving his story a happy ending.
I remember reading that they had already started writing S3 before it was canceled and they'd always planned to move the story ahead in time.
Seems to me the motivation on much of RS is to incorporate the sensational events that actually occurred during that time period. I think they wanted to move in time to accomodate more of that. (Though I don't really know what they took from Victorian London events for S3)

I remember hearing that too whimsy.....but I'm pretty sure they must have played around with it a bit before they started filming. Not only because it had a different feel to it on Amazon, but because of what happened at the end of the series (which I was going to put under a spoiler......but apparently I can't use the spoiler button on my tablet!!)
If I'm honest I can't really remember so much about s3.....
It is a huge shame Aradia, especially as Damien himself commented that there were future possibilities for his character! But as you say, great fuel for Albert Flight fic, of which there is not nearly enough..have you checked out Rosie's (RPlovesipswich) in the fan fic area of the forum?
fifi, you can insert the spoiler box manually as follows, but without the gaps (if i type it the correct way, the text will disappear and become a spoiler box!)
I love that Rosie wants to give Albert Flight a happy ending. I feel the same with any of Damien's characters I write about. Happy endings required!
His character was left hanging, as was so much else at the end of S2. The lack of resolution really bothered me, and I lost interest in the show as a result. Didn't make any attempt to watch S3 because of the leap in time.
Albert Flight's story deserved more time and effort than it was given.

We don't even know if he was locked back in the cell after Shine is let go. All we know is that Reid doesn't want to punish Flight. I'm still hopeful that Flight will appear in series 4 or 5.
I've been thinking of writing some fanfics of my own, so will definitely check out any stories posted here for inspiration. May have to rewatch some eps too, as when I'm planning it out in my head, he keeps turning into Hal! Maybe I should try a crossover, if I feel like a challenge!

I think someone tinkered with a crossover Aradia, I think posted on their personal LJ page or wordpress page. But I didn't read it so don't know the details.
Right after S2 aired I had a little idea for a Flight ficlet. Well really, Flight smut. LOL But it just never materialized. I felt too demoralized by the whole canceled then no Flight for S3.

Oooh Flight smut ! Maybe enough time has passed for you to get your Flight smut mojo back, whimsy ! I've written some 'scenes' but I'm not ready to share yet !
Heh. Just got an email alert from youtube for the trailer for series 3.
I had no idea the BBC were showing it until Rosie mentioned it above (do you mind if I call you Rosie? Not sure of forum etiquette about real names)
It's like they know me...
