A prominent member of the newly formed London County Council is skillfully abducted from his table at Whitechapel’s Blewett’s Theatre of Varieties, the music hall where Rose Erskine now works as a waitress.
Their investigation brings the recently married Drake back into contact with Rose, the girl who broke his heart. And it also introduces Reid to Councilor Jane Cobden, the first woman ever appointed to the LCC – because it appears the kidnappers are a female gang, and radical supporters of Cobden’s aims.
When a lawyer is similarly abducted from his pleasures in one of the Leman Street bedrooms, Long Susan finds herself faced with the gang’s charismatic leader and soon taken by force herself to the gang’s hideout.
As Jackson works furiously to discover their whereabouts, so Susan finds herself growing sympathetic to her captors’ lives and aims - an affection which leads her, for the first time, to question the worth of the working life she has established in Whitechapel.
I suspect that Damien isn't going to get much screen time in this ep......but it's good to see him listed in the cast - so you never know. I'd love to be wrong!
Interesting to see Jack the Ripper listed as a character....
This was an AMAZING episode. My favorite by far, even without much Flight. Those women delivered a STUNNING performance!
And then there was the Ep4 sneakpeak!

You know, I had said I was just gonna wait till December to watch this when it airs here. Then last week happened and I couldn't not watch knowing he was back on tv. And I thought that would hold me over. NOPE! Watching this ep now.... lol.

I agree whimsy, the female performances were terrific tonight.
I'm going to have to google the actress who played Raine, i think she played Madam Vastra in Doctor Who but i've seen her in something else and i can't think what it is. She had a northern accent in it too.
You're right, not much Flight in this one, i think next week's episode will be the one where we'll find out more about him and he'll be more centrally placed but i found tonight's episode interesting and absorbing and the reveal of the phossy jaw was truly shocking, made me gasp.
Knightley - absolutely! How could you not watch it now?!
I agree it was an excellent episode.... And there might not have been much Flight, but I'm loving the screencap of Flight, Reid, Jackson and Drake - I'm rather surprised no-one has mentioned the suit....
I thought it was the best episode so far; great to see one with so many strong women in it, and the makeup/Sfx for the woman with Fossey jaw was amazing.
And I love that Flight just popped up almost at random so I was all 'this is a good scene...Oooh, there's Flight! That's exciting', lol! And the trailer for next week....yay!

@fifi - Looks like you were right about Jack the Ripper being a music hall character!
@Knightley - so glad you decided to go ahead and watch it now!
(A reminder to our other lovely international members - info on how you can watch from outside the uk here)
@Kat - I agree, there was less upfront Flight this week, but the moments where he popped up were a treat. I particularly liked the scene where he was in the same frame as Fred Best the journalist. for some reason that gave me a real buzz... and when Reid asked Flight to fetch coffee!
A behind the scenes video of Damien filming the scene near the end of this episode, spotted by Su! who else had seen this video before but not spotted Damien?!
good spotting Su! I never even saw this video prior to now. it's too bad there are crew in the way.
