The Irish Independent on Sunday has a wonderful new in-depth interview with Damien!
"I'm not trying to tie myself down to any one genre. It's just some of the darker, more bloody roles have been the ones offered to me in the past two years. And with Albert Flight [his character], like Hal, his story is what attracts me. He is brilliant, ambitious, arrogant, and he's different."
What a lovely interview - a bit more insight into his background and his seemingly desperate need to act. Loving that they are placing him in the same category as Benedict Cumberbatch (although, I suppose it's quite an easy comparison to make at the moment) as it's putting him in a very positive light.
I devoured and relished this interview, I read it 3 times just to let it all sink in. His work ethic is phenomenal. We are blessed that he didn't give up on his dream and works so hard to hone his craft. He makes it look so seamless, so natural and instinctual that it's easy to forget it is "work".
The man has a gift for words. I wonder how much of it is from playing all these characters with antiquated lush vocabularies. "Living truthfully in imaginary circumstances" is also my favorite. He has a good head on his shoulders, in all interviews I've found his answers well thought through and earnest.
Every time I think I couldn't love and admire him more I'm proven wrong. Wonderful to see a glimpse into his world.
I can't wait till the whole world sees him in the same categories as Benedict Cumberbatch. The talent is there. It's only a matter of time!

Agree that is is totally only a matter of time whimsy, it is easy to imagine Damien's career taking a very similar trajectory to Cumberbatch...as well as the talent he has that same unique quality (and passionate (and growing) fanbase) that makes him standout from the rest. And he has worked hard for it too.
