"Perhaps the biggest question mark, though, and the strand given least space in this final episode, was the story of Flight’s transition from Shine’s mole to wannabe goodie. We heard briefly of his dark deeds and saw evidence of his desire to become a good man but, agonizingly, were denied an opportunity for true redemption."
I agree with both of these. I think domino, the thing is that you and most of us knew that Flight had secrets and were keeping careful watch at the little clues, so for us we knew that the story arch would come to pass. But I think most of the watchers weren't privy to that info, if they didn't read Flight's character description. So episodes 5 & 6 he was hardly there, it would have been easy to dismiss him just as Reid and Co did, and not give any thought to his story.
The other facet is that there is actually LESS impact on the relationship between Flight and Reid (and Drake and Jackson) because it seemed like they never actually accepted Flight. There was the one "initiation" scene in Ep 4 but beyond that, he wasn't there, he wasn't praised, he was treated like a lackey, he was almost grudgingly included in some of the investigation, but there was no communication with the trio beyond work. It would have benefited the story if they HAD included him more, if Reid's acceptance of him had come earlier than ep7. Then it truly would have felt like betrayal, right in the gut.
Plus the fact that Shine was completely missing was a shame as well.

"The supporting cast does admirable work as well. As Long Susan, MyAnna Burning is given much more to do, with criminals after her "home" and straining her relationship with Jackson. Charlene McKenna (Gosford Park) returns as Rose, her story still entwined with Drake's. She's just as vulnerable as he is, as McKenna is very good as wearing her heart on her sleeve. A newcomer this season is a rookie cop, Constable Flight (Damien Moloney, Suspects), is here more for plot purposes than for character, and doesn't make as much of an impact. Also worth mentioning is David Wilmot (King Arthur) as Sgt. Atherton, the officer with the great big bushy beard who works behind the police station's front desk. All he's asked to do is be exasperated by everything happening around him, and he does it well."
Wow.

I mean really? I only started to watch that show because Damien, I find it brilliant (the show) and Damien did good job, even though his character wasn't on the center of attention all the time. But he was the one who actually touched many peoples hearts. Some of those people found their way here.
My initial reaction is the same Jozie...and it's a very good point that some people found the forum because of Flight.
I've read the whole review and I'm feeling a bit bemused! As Jackson said - Flight 'ain't no Hobbs'...who really was rather one dimentional and only there for plot purposes. By the end of the series Flight was a pretty well developed character and the mere fact that the reviewer mentioned him at all suggests that he had some impact other than just plot development - especially considering how few characters do get a mention in the review and that there is nothing at all about any other 'new' characters...nothing about Jane Cobden...or even Shine.
In fact the only characters mentioned are series regulars...and not all of them. There is something of a comparison made between Flight and Sgt Atherton suggesting that they believe Flight was underused and - coupled with the phrase 'A newcomer this season...' - it makes it sound very much as though they are expecting Flight's return (or a return Flight? - sorry!!)
I knew I could rely on you guys to word my feelings exactly about that particular statement about Flight.
As far as characters aside from the main three go, Flight made the biggest impact, was possibly the most present consistently throughout and was centre of the main central thread running through the of entire series 2. It was from his arrival that the suspense and tension began.... He also had a pretty multidimensional character arc...
