Still, Jack has come bit over Flight because he is new character, fresh and sassy. Poor little Flight, will anybody remember him? He is always my fav detective cause he is so damn hot and cute and not sassy at all (well maybe little ). And if I could choose, I would choose Flight to be real life cop, liked his way to work undercover
Oh Nan, perhaps you are right. I mean, those paintings are so great I'm sure Flight himself would be so touched if he could see that awesome painting of yours that you made about him And perhaps that's why it's very fair of you vote Jack instead...
I love Flight! Just think what sort of detective he could have been if it had been Reid who had 'saved' him rather than Shine.
His backstory is so compelling. I love Flight's moral ambiguity, it makes him a such an interesting character - Jack is much more black and white even though he doesn't always go about things the 'correct' way. Flight's speech about the work he did for Inspector Reid being good work and meant and felt in his heart as proper work makes me cry every time I watch it.

I have tried my very best in this topic to remind people how great character and detective Flight is. And before they vote they could remember him cause Jack is currently on telly and taking all attention, but that doesn't mean that Flight should be forgotten!
hear hear Rosie! I think Flight has the makings of an awesome detective, and not all is lost for him... fingers crossed he gets a chance to show it in the next series of Ripper Street.
good point about his look too... not that this is a poll on costumes and Jack is not too hard on the eye either.... but those period costumes swing it for me... the pocket watch and chain, the fedora, the suits, the high collars and cravats...

I think there are quite a lot of similarities between Flight and Jack (aside from looks and accent!). Both are very determined and have their own sense of what is right and wrong. Flight is very clear in his distinction between the bad things he has done and the good work he does for Reid even though his moral compass seems a bit awry to everyone else. Jack will do things which are not by the book if it achieves what he thinks needs to happen in a situation. I think Flight would see quite a lot of himself in his great-great-great grandson!
I would love Flight to come back in series 3 and show everyone the sort of man he could be. If he came back he would have to work really hard to gain everyone's trust and hopefully everyone would eventually admire his perserverance. It would be a much more interesting story than punishing him.
I love the period costumes too, Domino! I do spend most of Ripper Street drooling over the incredible clothes!

I would love to see Flight again, he was so interesting person. You can imagine my disappointment after season 2 finale when they just left his future hanging on like that (and the whole show). In season 3 they are jumping forward in time, so I hope there would be change (even in one ep) that Flight would return. I would like to see proper ending for his story.

Flight actually has to look through all the records and find things quickly which is harder than just typing a few things into a computer! No wonder he is so pleased with himself!

Rosie - I agree almost entirely with every point you have made.....but the poll is for your favourite detective - not the best. Much as I love Flight and hope we see more of him - maybe another series would change my mind...........but, for now at least, my favourite us still Jack!

I love your recent argument Rosie - there was no cctv, no fingerprinting (but it came soon i think, very late 1800s/ early 1900s? I am sure someone will tell us! ) no computer records and as you say no internet! every break a detective had in those days was far more fought for! Perhaps though because the rest of the world has changed... crime fighting has become tougher in other ways.
I have just voted for Flight. I cannot say this was an objective decision, more that I tend to fight for the underdog... I love both characters equally and Jack is undoubedly a superb detective.
I chose Jack Weston because he's a dynamic character.
I like that DS Weston's words are ones that Mr. Molony chose.

Maybe you are right, I have told why Flight is my favorite detective even though I like Jack as well.
But its good to remind people about Flight, cause you know, Jack is owning the telly right now and Flight was smaller role than Jack. I have approach this topic thinking about the detective side and character side, lets not forget Flight who was amazing detective back in the days, with his nice style and lego hair, and his dark past. Deep, interesting character.
And you know, people have pointed out that Flight did excellent job without any computers, cctv and modern day equipment. He wasn't so good at fights, even Damien told that in one interview (and boy do I like see Jack in action, I mean when he arrest someone) but when I step back and look them both, my heart always choose Flight. Its not that which one has better detective skills, it's the whole character itself
