yeah that line is an uncomfortabe one for me. Jack is actually being fakely nice, this is one of his interview modes.. the friendly but underneath seething... like he knows but needs to lull them into that false sense of security...
well said Jozie, you worded something I felt but couldnt verbalise. There is a non verbal language Damien uses as well, it adds so much to Jack as a character
Love that quality about Jack, using sarcasm and he is kind of brave jumping in conclusions, he was saying in the start "I think this si the guy" or something when he was pinning Gearges photo on the wall
Agree Tina, Jack is on to George right from the very get go... he totally doesn't believe anything he says.. and I felt part of his seething is knowing he has no evidence to back up his instinct
yeah that's an interesting point Jane... Martha saying everyone has to have the chance to change (a theme that continued throughout the ep)..but it didn't feel to me Jack was making a general statement on that, more that he has this absolute instinct on this particular case, and perhasp that he has had these powerful hunches before that turn out to be right ... (i began to get the sense that was his forte as a detective)
great insight on Damien using space Jozie. I've noticed that. The fence this time, the wall at the station alot, the way he leans in the interrogation room, his playing with his pen all the time... all these give depth to his character. I don't see so much depth in the other two.

I think Jack is hard pressed to give second chances. Once a criminal, always a criminal in his mind.

I was really lost in this ep but somehow I took Jacks side about the suspect and didn't trust George in the beginning, I have learn to trust Jack instincts in this show.
To this non verbal language: I don't remember, what scene it was, maybe a bit later, but at some timepoint he makes this humming noise, I think, after Martha had told him something.
there is tension in the opening scenes, between the watertight alibi of George and the instinct Jack has.. as well as the subtle tension between Martha and Jack's pov...compelling
In the main office. Jack cannot get onto the server and is clicking his keyboard furiously. Charlie has spoken with the latest victim, Diane Ackerman, who agreed to the forensic exam, but doesn't want to take it any further. Martha points out that the Chief Superintendent's wife is also Diane Ackerman
Scene 6 (04.15-05.16) The Chief Super comes to the station with Diane.
Scene 7 (05.15-06.16) Charlie interviews Diane about the attack and questions her about the bar where she had a drink before the attack happened)
Scene 8 (06.17-06.48)
Jack asks Martha if he should do the normal background checks on Diane. She replies, stressily, he should. "Proceed as normal, obviously." Jack asks if she is ok and slams the door behind him.
Scene 9 (06.49-07.35)
Jack reports back to Martha, He has found out that a call was made to Ackerman's address recently over a domestic incident. the CI told them to get lost while Diane apologised profusely. Martha tells him she also has a bruise on her neck that pre-dates the rape.
(Scene 10 (07.36-08.23) Martha joins Charlie in the interview room, where Diane is upset talking about her attacker)
Scene 11 ( 08.23 -09.23 )
Martha Charlie and Jack are discussing the case in the main office. Charlie thinks it's odd she spent 2 hours on her own in a bar, Jack asks how much she had to drink, Charlie replies that she said 2 glasses. cctv footage from outside the pub shows Diane unable to walk straight and walking into a wheelie bin, obviously really drunk. pub receipts show she had a whole extra bottle to herself.
"I think that would floor even the heartiest Irish drinker."
Scene 12 (09.24-10.43)
Martha and Charlie interview Diane more asking her about her drinking that night. Jack interrupts that the DNA results are in, the 3 detectives talk in the corridor, nothing was found except the marks on her throat were from the man Diane works for, Andrew Borne.
Charlie wonders if the bruise on her face was from the same guy, Jack suggests they "just ask her". Martha replies, "No Jack, you're not just going to ask her, she's a victim, we're going to look after her. This is like day one, you understand that stuff...look the person I need to speak to is this Andrew Bourne guy.."
As soon as Martha leaves, Jack says to Charlie "She's shitting herself because of who she is"
