Jack's first words in the scene 5 besides the complaint about the server is "how is she." I thought his concern touching, and it seemed genuine.

I have the feeling, that Jack is -like in the first episode with the children- not too good with this delicate things, like how to talk to a raped women. I guess thats also why Charlie and Martha are doing them.
Charlie & Martha always take digs at Jack "you would know" on the flooring the heartiest Irish drinker (and the infamous scene later on the roof) and he always takes it in stride. Just love seeing their relationship dynamic.

I was thinking for a moment that Diane was covering somebody cause she was lying about the amount she had drink. It was surprising element that Diane was married with a copper, plot was getting new twist and I was hoping all the time that Jack would interview that chief but they didn't let him. There was lots of Martha and Charlie interviews and I don't understand why they didn't mix them a little. They gave Jack George and that was it.
Jane, he always slams doors when he's frustrated, like when interviewing Laurie in Ep 1. It might be unprofessional, but I have the sense it's tolerated by Martha because she gets him. He controls his emotions fairly well, usually seethes but doesn't have outbursts, except for the door slamming.

Agree with you Jane, didn't like Jack slammed that door but I think it was accident cause he turned look back that door like "oops" and then walked a way :D
Jack cares... that is why he seethes. He is like a dog with a bone when it comes to getting justice for the victim.. I never felt it was for achievements sake, but because he genuinely feels about the crime that has been committed... and that is why he overreacts sometimes
Jack suggests to Martha for them to flat out ask Diane about something (I don't remember what) and Martha coming back saying "she's the victim. This is day 1, you should know this". Martha intuitively knows Jack's not going to do well with Diane, Charlie is the more sympathetic. Plus Diane would feel more comfortable talking with a woman. As for the Chief, he probably refused to deal with anyone other than Martha. Wouldn't want to be interviewed by someone below her. And Martha wants to handle the situation because it's so sensitive having someone on the force, and someone so high up, involved.

Yes, he does care about the victims and that a crime was committed...but I don't think he's good at showing it.
AND THIS.

Jack suggests they "just ask her". Martha replies, "No Jack, you're not just going to ask her, she's a victim, we're going to look after her. This is like day one, you understand that stuff...look the person I need to speak to is this Andrew Bourne guy.."
I think Martha was overracting with that because of who the victim was. I wonder if she had just been a normal victim if Martha wouldn't have pushed the question.
