I'm used to technical jargon in terms of game production and engineering, and while I don't feel completely lost reading that article, it is all facinatingly new territory for me. Shame the comment "didn't use the full 4K capabilities of Sony's latest cameras" We recently had to replace our TV and looked into 4K, but as content isn't widely being produced to take advantage of that technology, it was a costly investment we felt wasn't worth it just yet. I love the look of Suspects, particularly the 2nd batch of filming because you can tell they made some adjustments to improve the look without compromising the realistic gritty feel - but would love to have episodes that look incredible on my big TV. (then again they didn't bother putting out BluRay,s so doubt if they had filmed with 4K, it would have been released anyway. I don't say this to criticize, just an observation.
Thanks for the juicy nugget domino.

Interest article, I was wondering when somebody write about the filming style, it is quite unique, document-like which is pretty risky for TV show but with Suspects it works. We have said many times how we love their way to film this show (especially those Damien closeups) but its refreshing when somebody do some little thing different, making it feel more realistic. There is also interview room filming which have been made to look real too. When you watch this show, it almost feel like you are stalking these detectives in real life. Also they used all the space they could have possibly find in London, even their building backyard was another location in the show, and last season they start to film on the front yard (the cage where they smoked). They have really used all the elements available, you really have to congrats them about this. Filming the show seemed exhausting and hard, few minutes scene took hours to film.
Thoughful posts whimsy and Jozie, enjoyed reading those and agree with both of you.
Whimsy, had they used those cameras would they have lost that gritty-ness? personally I'd find that a hige loss as the camera is so instrumental in this show. I like it because of its anti-slickness.
Jozie that is exactly it, the way the camera is used is WHY the show is so immersive.. and great point about the amazing use of space. Suspects is a brilliant example of quality programme making and drama on a low budget with limited location they really used the space to its potential and squeezed everything out of it... and created something exceptional.
Domino, I'm not 100% sure, but filming in 4K shouldn't mess with the graininess if it was filmed that way. It's like the difference between Standard Definition and High Definition. You still have the same thing captured, but if you try to watch SD on bigger TV's, it looks pixelated, the blacks look blotchy, the brights look less defined. 4K is like super High Def. But, if they've introduced graininess through the filming technique, that should still come through. I think.
