Wild though Jane :o I think he might have wanted to show different sides of Jack, and things that always seems to hit his nerves is that someone is hurting womans/girls.
i liked how in these scenes they are all pulling together as a team, all coming up with theories together, noone latching on to anything particular yet. Felt Martha was both more of a tream player and a strong leader in this ep from the start.
am I remembering wrong, isn't Jack like 3rd generation copper. I don't think child abuse victim.

Jack and Martha visit Sean Jones at home. When there is no reply when they knock at the door, they spot him through the window on the bed, apparently unconscious. Martha tells Jack to break the door open.
Martha: "Go on butch. Mind your fingernails."
Once inside, Jack puts him in the recovery position and calls an ambulance, while Martha finds photos of the victim on his laptop.
Scene 9 (06.32 - 06.45)
Martha and Jack are at the hospital. The doctors have told Jack Sean Jones is a heroin user.
Martha wants to have a chat with him anyway: "Don't worry, we'll arrest him when he's fit and well but we can have an informal little chat with him, hey?" Jack seems surprised, "really? I like it."
Scene 10 (06.46 - 07.20)
Martha and Jack speak to Sean who is in a hospital bed, Martha asks him to sign a consent form as they need to examine Anna.
Scene 11 (07.21 -07.54)
Back at HQ the team examine cctv footage of the crime scene at the park. Why had Anna run in the opposite direction of home a after the stabbing? Martha has acquired Sean's mobile phone.
Jack: " That's a trick right out of my book, are you looking for a promotion?"
this is a grim scene.. but one of my faves of the episode (not least because channel 5 gave us an excluisve clip of it in advance).
There is something exciting about Martha and Jack as a team out in the field, a different dynamic than Jack Charlie.
Martha's line to Jack is just gold: "Go on butch. Mind your fingernails."
I thought Jack was very heavy-handed with Sean. Harked back to the first episode with the Dad there, like he's just overly suspicious of the family. There's gut instinct but also knowing when to be restrained; the guy could be as much a victim as a suspect.
Normally we see Jack leading Charlie. I like the dynamic here with Martha and Jack. She's normally chastising him but here she shows that there are times when rules can be bent. Love his comments about taking a page out of his book and looking for a promotion.

It was surprising that there was coming up scene where they have to help somebody.
Is Jack always licking his lips when he is excited? I like it. (Scene 9 we had some lip licking again).
There was no more Jack playing with pen, I was little disapointed.
Martha is definitely in charge here....
I like the scene at the hospital where Martha is the rule breaker (or rule bender) rather than Jack "Don't worry, we'll arrest him when he's fit and well but we can have an informal little chat with him, hey?" and Jack replies "really? I like it."
echoed later in scene 11 where Martha tells Jack and Charlie she has obtained Anna's mobile phone, Jack is again surprised: " That's a trick right out of my book, are you looking for a promotion?"
That door came open way too easily. Jack is fit and strong, but still. lol
agree about the laptop. it was clearly a young girl's laptop.
Kat, you are right, it's like how he treated the dad in ep 1. and both cases involve children. so I feel this hits a nerve with him, he is automatically suspicious of the male family members and has very little patience with them. there's a feeling of urgency about him in these cases, and a short fuse. so yeah the dad's could be victims, but he goes the other way, assuming they are guilty.

Jack obviouly immediately suspected Sean....but it seemed to me that when they were told Sean was a heroine user, they both felt they could treat him....differently (if you see what I mean?)
