I felt for Jack when he told Charlie to ask the boss - he is clearly upset; I think the realisation of the consequences of his actions has dawned. This has been brewing for a while for Jack, it's more surprising that this hasn't happened before
it's been great chatting. I feel analyzing this whole ending could be a chat in and of itself!

agree with you whimsy, it was the way he treated martha that got to me, and his self absorption. even in this final scene he is not caring about Charlie.. yes he is upset but ...
Ah yes - Jack SHOULD be a caped crusader because it's tv...it's fiction...and everyone loves a maverick.
BUT real life is different - the reason you need evidence is because gut instinct is NOT sufficient. Jack's gut instinct told him that Saul was guilty....what if he'd planted evidence to convict him?!
can we just take a moment to acknowledge the brilliant acting in that final scene... Jack is holding back tears there....

All his anger and defensiveness has gone - he feels alone and that the people he trusts and respects don't understand him. I wanted to give him a cuddle in this scene even though I had been annoyed with him the whole series

Rosie - I think the problem is that the people he trusts and respect understand him all too well....he knows that, and part of why his upset. He's upset that he's pissed Martha off and lost her respect. I think there's an element of humiliation in there....
