Well, this explains the 24 email alerts when I got back within cellphone service this evening! I admire Damien for his self-motivation in staying fit. He looks like the race is no struggle.
I was never a runner, but have worked (and played) outside in the rain. It's better than sweltering heat!
And by the way, he looks very, very, very good in these pictures. Thanks, Domino! It was great of you to get them for the forum!

Wow, Kallie - I don't know how you can say you lack determination when you've run 50 miles!! I'm impressed for you. I have a friend who is into lots of outdoor sports and have occasionally done stuff like climbing hills with her and I always get scared that I won't be able to keep up (I don't mind climbing things, but find it terrifying getting back down! But I don't like climbing things. For me, if I am in nature, I'd rather be dawdling slowly, not trying to race through it as fast as possible. Seems a waste to me, hahaha. Or, I'm just lazy?!)
Impressive that Damien's lap times got better during this! I suppose I can just about understand someone running a 10K... but I can't imagine anyone doing a distance further than this! I can't imagine setting out to do a marathon for example (I'd personally just be worried about needing the loo every 20 minutes!! haha!)
I have to say I actually love to do exercise... and not only that, I have to as I get serious insomnia if I don't. I don't know - I used to dance as a child and after I'd stopped for a few years in my late teens I began getting think-you're-goning-crazy levels of insomnia which exercise seemed to fix. However, I detest running and do not do it at all unless I have to run for a bus! First off, I just can't keep going/find it boring, but I also find it really demoralizing. I know it isn't about being fast, but I am only 5 foot nothing, yet despite this if I'm sitting down, I can be as tall as a 6 foot man - I have a superlong body and virtually no legs at all. I always thought I was just slow as a tortoise, but I don't think my short and stumpy to the utter extreme legs help either when it comes to running. So if there is anyone else around when I have attempted to run, it is just really, really embarrassing as I am so slow. It doesn't matter who else is there, I will be the slowest. Basically, I do not think it is for me.
Those pics of Damo running look great! Thanks for posting them here domino!
Wow Kallie, 50 miles? That's amazing! And thanks for posting your pics here, must have been very unforgettable experience!
For me, running was the worst thing at first. I hated it cause I was short and slow, and it hurts and you get exhausted. Even music didn't help. But I just did it cause I had to and after while I learned to listen my body and it didn't hurt anymore, it turned out to be my favorite sport.
Now I ran 4km every day of the week, it takes about 20 minutes. I call them daily run and sometimes I post photos on the way to twitter. Wouldn't want to race with Damien thought, he would beat me so easily And I would gladly run behind him... For reasons..
These pics and posts of Damien keeping himself fit inspires me a lot, like his blood donations. And he seems very proud of himself too cause post them, it is his passion and I just admire that
More than impressed with your 50miles Kallie! I don't do running. I walk. A lot. Not for excercise but because I love it! Tho I can see the attaction in being able to cover 6 miles in 45 mins....that would certainly extend my range!
Kallie - that's awesome that you did that race! I've done a half marathon, but that's been my longest distance so far.
And Damo did indeed do his tri in 2013, because that's when I did mine! :D Thank you to every one of you who dontated to my efforts! (Hey, the page is still up here! Look what we did, guys! events.doctorswithoutborders.org/index.cfm ) Trying to arrange an encore for this month, but don't think it's going to happen, scheduling-wise, which super bums me out. I haven't done a charity race this year and time is running short!
Running shoes are always so insanely colored. It is what it is. ;)
And I bet Senior just means "not a kid," or something to do with experience, as anyone over 18 is a in "masters" in swimming. Just means adult. Who knows, though? He's a wee pup compared to many out there!
So, anyway...I'm off for probably a swim today, because hot. I'll run in the rain any day. Jade, on the other hand, not so much. She's a great running buddy in general, but not in the rain. That dog melts in the rain, you know. ;)
Also, I hate running, but I do it anyway. It does get better, but for me, it never really gets "fun." ;)

He looks so smiley and relaxed....that "cheeky 10k" comment looks almost justified!
Yeah... how does DaMo do that? Look so collected and together.. He just ran a mere 10k after all..! The smile is well justified though what an achievement. Fitness levels to be admired!
