Multi-award winning writer and actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge (seen in Broadchurch, The Iron Lady, Bad Education) is to be joined by Louise Ford (Chickens, Not Safe for Work), Damien Molony (Suspects, Ripper Street), Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch, W1A), Julie Dray (Cradle To Grave), Amit Shah (Jekyll & Hyde, The Hundred Foot Journey) and Adrian Scarborough (Gavin & Stacey, Miranda, Plebs) for her Channel 4 acting & writing debut Crashing.
CRASHING, starting on January 11th at 10pm on Channel 4, is a comedy drama that crashes straight into the lives and loves of six twenty-something adults living together as Property Guardians in a disused hospital. In amongst the asbestos and abandoned x-ray machines live sexually explosive estate agent Sam (Jonathan Bailey), frustrated French artist Melody (Julie Dray), shy and excitable Fred (Amit Shah), and happily engaged couple Anthony and Kate (Damien Molony and Louise Ford). It’s practically peaceful. That is, until the spontaneous arrival of Lulu (Phoebe Waller-Bridge), Anthony’s oldest and least responsible friend…
In an age of unaffordable housing and sky-high rents, becoming a Property Guardian has never been so appealing, with thousands of people paying as little as £25 a week to live in unoccupied buildings in exchange for 'protecting' the property from disrepair. Just imagine waking up every morning in your own historic building in the most exciting city in the world. Even if it is an enormous, creepy, derelict hospital.
Also joining the cast are Susan Wokoma (Chewing Gum, Bluestone 42), Lachie Chapman (The Overtones) and actress, director and comedian Kathy Burke (Absolutely Fabulous, Harry Enfield & Chums) who makes a special guest appearance as the eccentric Aunt Gladys.
It's about that time in your life when the reality of being an adult kicks you hard in the crotch. It’s time to choose who you are, what you want and who you love. Easy. Right? Unless you live in a crumbling hospital with people you don't like and a partner who shits in the bed.
As a writer, Phoebe Waller Bridge enjoyed incredible success at the 2013 EdFringe Festival where her one-woman show FLEABAG played to sell-out audiences and rave reviews, garnering a Fringe First Award, The Stage Award for Best Solo Performance and an Olivier Award nomination. She has also been nominated for Most Promising New Playwright at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Her writing TV credits include Drifters, and acting TV credits include Broadchurch, Henry, Bad Education and The Café, with film credits including Albert Nobbs and The Iron Lady.
CRASHING is produced by the award-winning Big Talk Productions (Rev, Him & Her, Raised By Wolves). The 6x30 series was commissioned by Channel 4 Comedy Commissioning Editor, Rachel Springett and executive produced by Big Talk Chief Executive, Kenton Allen and Liz Lewin. The series is produced by Josh Cole and directed by George Kane.
Such good news (and you were right in your deductions, Jack Weston would be proud). This is just the kind of thing he does so well. A good cast and a different story line. I'm really looking forward to this - and he looks so good in the photo!
YAY!!! And *cough* I'll happily let Jack reward me for my deductive skills.
I recall saying it was on Ch 4 and being corrected. So does the fact it's on Ch 4 and not E4 make any difference whatsoever to the broadcast/target audience/success of the show?
Happily engaged. That makes me hopefull for Damo smiles!!!
He looks fab in the picture, although I'm only seeing a thumbnail sized one on my phone and can't get a bigger crisp image.
