This is not a new subject for us, we've been discussing it since 2013. But it is always great to see Damien's talent recognised! He is named in the latest Who speculation in the Radio Times, since Peter Capaldi announced he is leaving this year!
Please let it be Damien, please let it be Damien...
But I have a feeling you might be right Ellie. Actually part of me thinks it would be better to have it be a woman. Finally.
In that case... please let him be a companion. please let him be a companion...

It makes me very happy to see so many calls for Damien to play 13....even though I'm not so keen myself. I've also previously felt a bit meh about the prospect of a female doctor - but find myself warming to the idea this time around. I'm not sure whether that's because I've come round to it having been softened up by The Master's Missy, or because it feels like it's time () ....or just because there seems to be a lot of momentum behind the idea, but I think I might be surprised if it turn out to be a man.
And to be totally honest i can't decide if I like the idea of Damien as a companion or not....
Personally, I think it's about time () Damien's talent was given a very major platform and this is certainly that! I do understand some of the views (though in the minority) that it would take him off the circuit for a bit.. but only for a bit.. and then he would be even more of a superstar who could pick and choose his roles even more! Apart from that, he is actually perfect for the role. A total perfect fit.
But.. we have had this conversation before (and again and again) it does feel a bit like we've time travelled () back to 2013.. and wonder do the showrunners even listen to the views of the public? Peter Capaldi wasn't even a mention in the odds running up to 12.. but had already been selected for the role.
TBH I would only want Damien to be on Doctor Who if the writing improves. It is nice to see him getting even more fan love this time than he did last time there was an opening. I don't put any stock in though. I've surprised by the choice every time and I don't expect this time to be any different.

Damien's name appears in the 'next Doctor Who' betting odds again! There are some quite absurd ones on Ladbrokes.. Just cannot see majority of them in the role. Phoebe Waller-Bridge though.. now there's an idea! But only if Damien is her companion..
Oh yes please please please let it be him... This could be literally dream come true, fav actor and one of the fav shows combined. He could be new witty Doctor we haven't seen before!
You make a good case Jozie!
There have been very witty Doctors before, humour is part of the Doctors character too, but I do agree that Damien's particular talent at "charm and wit" would bring something very special to the role.
