Just when we thought we couldn't love Toby Whithouse more!

Doctor Who writer backs Being Human star Damien Molony to replace Peter Capaldi

 

Doctor Who writer Toby Whithouse has named Being Human actor Damien Molony as his top choice to replace the departing Peter Capaldi.

"Damien Molony, who was on Being Human, I've always thought he'd be terrific," Whithouse (who, of course, also created said supernatural series for BBC Three) told Digital Spy.

 

"He's a fantastic actor. My ideal choice would either be Damien or Chiwetel Ejiofor, who I think would be absolutely terrific."

Even i can't deny that it's fantastic to see Damien's name bandied around for the role of the doctor....although i can't help thinking that the more mainstream the idea becomes, the less likely it is to happen!  I can't argue with Toby (would i ever??!?!!)....Damien would make a fantastic Doctor.  And believe me - if it actually happened I would be as happy as anyone.....

I saw Digital Spy's tweet about this. It makes me so excited to see Damien being floated for Doctor Who. No telling how official that is. We know Toby is a huge fan of Damien. I'm not sure how much pull Toby has but seeing someone linked with the show floating his name is really really good. :)

Butterflies in my tummy at reading his tweet. Damien has always been very careful about not announcing his involvement in projects until way after others have. This surely isn't just a spur of the moment random tweet.

It is a very thrilling tweet, just to see Damien comment amidst all the excitement! But, as much as I agree about Damien's care in what he tweets whimsy, it seems unlikely he is commenting on his involvement, in the past the next Doctor Who has been sworn to utter secrecy, even from their own family!

Would be wonderful, but (and I hate to say this) the more it gets talked about the less likely it is. They've always held off until the big reveal, I can't see it changing now - and Christmas is a long way away!

 Christimas is a long way away! I can't help thinking that they won't have even held any auditions yet let alone made a decision - unless Chris Chibnall already had somebody in mind when he took the job.  So Damo's tweet is probably no more than a cheeky response to the speculation - and it made me laugh a lot!

I don't suppose for a minute that Lord Toby has any clout when it comes to choosing who gets the part....it's just his opinion. But I'm very much enjoying the attention that it's given Damien - and apparently so is he!!!

I'm inclined to agree with you both Ellie and fifi, previous castings have always been super secret as we've all said. We also know from last time betting odds are irrelevant too.

But what delights me, and the reason for making this separate topic from the many 'DaMo for the doctor' topics we already have, is that Lord Toby has spoken out so specifically in support of seeing Damien in the role. It's just bloody lovely! Isn't it! I mean! And also because Damien would be perfect and seeing that in media headlines is also perfect!

Damien's tweet is kind of thrilling, because the initial article in DS whipped up a media storm and he stuck his head out in the middle of that to give a littele wave! But at no time did that feel to me to be any kind of hint relating to the role.

I couldn't agree with you more! It's lovely and rumours of not, this is very good promo for him. He is in the end a random card like Matt was, there is every change they might consider him in to the role. Or maybe some other project....wink

 Oh my.. now there is a thought Jozie.. I would love to see Damien and Toby W work together again! If the role was right..

My feeling is that Toby knows Damien's acting sensibilities and think they would be ideal for The Doctor. that's also what makes Toby naming Damien so exciting, he's not saying he is a brill actor and would be good in any role (which he is and would and I'd eat my hat if Lord Toby didn't agree) but that Damien is a perfect match for this iconic role. Recommendations don't come better than that!

I feel your pain Ciara, you're not alone, many of the fandom feel that way especially after all the hype around our favourite actor in the 'who' it might be speculation (for the second time). It is exciting there will be a female Doctor for the first time though! I'd not heard about the companions, we had speculated on that here too, but maybe Damien is destined for other universes!
