Fabulous news!

GameFace has been commissioned for a second series!

Series 2 will also be moving to Channel 4.

Six episodes begin filming February 2019 and air later in the year.

No news on returning cast yet, but how can it not include more Joncella?

Congrats to Roisin Conaty and team!

Cannot wait for more of this utterly wonderful show

Channel 4 explains: "The first series swooped between laugh-out-loud silliness and tender, truthful observation as Marcella grappled with her career, overcame heartbreak and dealt with her eccentric family. All with her questionable life-coach, best friends and long-suffering driving instructor by her side."

 

Six more episodes will go into production in February 2019, and will air on Channel 4 later that year. The network says: "It promises to deliver more laughs, more drama and more of Conaty's own unique takes on modern life."

 

Roisin Conaty says: "GameFace is a show very close to my heart so I am bloody over the moon we are getting to make another series and very grateful to Channel 4. I can't wait to get back to whispering to myself as I type in coffee shops and the relentless dry heaving as deadlines approach."

 

Fiona McDermott, Head of Comedy for Channel 4, comments: "Roisin goes from strength to strength and with Marcella she's created a fantastically funny, flawed and recognisable character, one we think more viewers should have the chance to meet. We can't wait to welcome the show back, and are thrilled that this second series will be airing on Channel 4."

 

 

Executive Producer Charlotte Lewis from production company Objective Fiction adds: "We were bowled over by the lovely response to GameFace - with so many viewers seeing a bit of themselves in Marcella! It's fantastic that Channel 4 have given us the opportunity to make another series. We can't wait to get stuck in."

Will he, or won't he? Yes, let the guessing game begin! I really hope we are put out of our misery soon!

 

It is hard to imagine GameFace without Jon in Marcella's life though...


Series 2 will be 2 years on,, so there are all kinds of potential scenarios... my favourite being that Marcella and Jon are in a relationship, living together - the comedy possibilities are endless!

I replied to Roisin Conaty's tweet, ( in an excitable rambling way ) () about wanting more Joncella, and she liked my tweet, not sure if we can read anything into that though cool

You're probably right Sana. I am very much hoping it is not months of waiting to find out though, considering filming doesn't begin until Feb next year! Let's all send Joncella vibes to Roisin C while she is writing it!

Oh no Ellie! Ouch! How awful. I hope you heal quickly. 

I really hope she wasn't messing with us. I'm not a happy camper right now and could really use some happy news. 

I'm getting married tomorrow in the middle of a  hurricane with a stress reaction or stress fracture in my foot, and then a week later going to London for the honeymoon, which requires lots of walking.  My own father isn't even going to make it to the wedding. 20 of our 60 guests were coming from out of town.  I have been planning this wedding for 9 months and have been waiting for 13 years.  I think the photographer may have bailed on us.   

Also our dog died suddenly last Saturday.  We are devastated.  :( 

My fiance and our friends and family are the best though.  I'm trying to adjust my attitude.  It's just so hard on top of losing our dog so unexpectedly.

I did wonder at first whether Roisin had the headshots of cast from the first series for writing inspiration for the second. But, Looking at the evidence, I'm going to say she would not tease Damien being in series 2 if he wasn't, especially as she knows how all his admiring fans are hanging on to find out!

Roisin Conaty was a guest on Blank Podcast, loved it - she talks about the creative process, GameFace and much much more!

My heart went out to her when she mentions how tough writing is. But also, even more excited to see it, her dedication, humanity and intelligence shines through all of this. 

So valid what she says about being compared to female writers, why not male?

Also, GameFace series 2 begins filming on Brexit day (!) which is 29 March 2019 and possibly an Autumn premiere?

So now we have a start of filming date for GameFace series 2 , that's great! Something to look forward to.
