Sky have announced Brassic series 5, which begins filming at the end of this month!
Sky’s biggest original comedy, Brassic, will return for an eagerly anticipated fifth series next year.
Filming on the BAFTA-nominated series starts at the end of the month, and viewers can expect more of the eccentric plans and hi-jinks from the Brassic gang that includes Vinnie, Erin, Tommo, Ashley, JJ, Cardi, Carol, Sugar, farmer Jim and Dr Chris.
Well spotted Ellie, didn't see that!! It does say "includes" though, so it's not an exclusive list... but Dylan was also not in a few promo photos as well, which coupled with this is a bit of a downer.
Series 5 filming has begun now and Damien is quoted in this article in the Lancashire Telegraph, which very much suggests he is part of it! (again though - Dylan is not in the "includes" list of characters! )
Damien Molony, who plays Dylan, says he is “blown away” by the reaction from locals when they film in the area.
He said: “We love going back there.
“There's been so many iconic scenes on the streets of Bacup and all around the north west, whether it's Blackburn, or Bolton, or inner city Manchester.
“That's the great thing about this show for us is that every day we're in a different part of the country.
“I'm constantly blown away by how much people love the gang in Brassic, and so much so that they want to go and do a tour of the north west to follow our trail from around Manchester and the surrounding area.
“I think we need to organise a Brassic pub crawl taking in all the locations.”
Sorry, Domino, it's just that I've noticed that very often when they say "includes" in a newspaper or other media they then go on to list every single person or event. It drives me mad. Also they've got Dr Chris and farmer Jim as part of the gang, so I suppose that just shows the standard of the reporting.
I think the pub crawl would work as a tourist attraction- especially if Dylan was leading them round 🍻
No need to be sorry Ellie! It is a tad worrying...Wish we had more solid confirmation but fingers crossed! If Damien was ever to move on from the show it would be for a very good reason, because Brassic has legs that go on forever! I'd be more worried if the article on series 5 filming hadn't included Damien, but that does suggest he is part of filming.
I have no insider knowledge to share but we will see filming photos soon, no doubt!
Damien spoke about series 5 on his Virgin Radio interview this morning!
Just the confirmation we need? Or even more mysterious?
When asked if he has done any filming himself yet he said "not yet"...
but then:
“We’re filming at the moment,” Damien confirmed. “I think there are big changes. I think someone mentioned the word ‘prison’. Maybe. But I don't know. And I certainly can't say any more than that.”
I think if they do a recap at the beginning of series 5 they would show him being bundled into the car boot.
I keep hoping that "not a series regular" means he pops up at the end as having been coerced into working for the "big bad".
As we all know, Damien left the show at the end of series 4, and he does not appear in the promo poster above.
The last series ended with a cliffhanger and we never found out what happened to Dylan.
We also knew that there might be a little bit of Dylan in series 5.
I have now watched the whole series, and happy to a non-spoilery (and spoilery if you choose) update!
Without giving spoilers: I can confirm Damien does appear in series, both in flashbacks and also new content
But if you are only watching for Damien, this is very very minimal, as we would expect.
And yes, we do find out what happened to Dylan!
The 'What happened to Dylan?' question is woven throughout the entire series arc and the other characters, and pitched perfectly. I am pleased with how the writers dealt with Dylan's exit.. and what we find out...
Spoiler version: My thoughts and full details are below
(the spoiler reveal button is there for a reason - don't click it if you don't want to know!)
Spoiler
Apart from flashbacks, Dylan appears in brief moments showing a tiny bit of him in the boot of a car. His main moment, and the final reveal, comes in the final episode when we find out that he is still alive, but living somewhere else to get away from the danger of it all. He leaves a phone message for Vinnie, who has been worried about him all series, to let him know he is ok and that he just had to get away. It is very brief, but great to see Damien and leaves it open for Dylan to return...there is no indication of this though, but it is not a finite end. He is not dead. I would never have forgiven them if they killed him off, that would have been too sad for us fans, but also for Dylan as a character and for the whole show. Now he can go on to have new and different adventures (spin off dreams anyone?)
Overall, I really enjoyed series 5, it felt really balanced across all the characters and contained the usual mix of drama and humour, at a really high quality. Most of the characters had their own individual highlight / story strands within the overall series. All the characters developed and moved forward in different ways.
Haven't seen all of series 5 yet, I'm not feeling the need to binge watch as Damien isn't a main character now.
I was hoping he'd been forcibly recruited by the Big Bad and would appear at the very end of the last episode as the reason everything Vinnie tried failed.
