NEW TV ROLE! Damien Molony guest stars in 'SAY NOTHING' on Disney+ & Hulu

Very exciting news Molonians! Another new tv role for our fave actor!

According to his Spotlight Acting CV, Damien will appear as the character Stephen in 'Say Nothing' -  an FX original limited series.

The series will comprise 9 episodes and premiere Thursday 14 November exclusively on Disney+ in the U.K and on Hulu in the U.S.

No details about Damien’s role have been revealed yet, but since the main casting was announced earlier this year, we can probably expect him in a guest appearance. Either way, it's exciting to see him involved in this project!

A Disney press release reveals more details on the series:

The series is based on the best-selling book by Patrick Radden Keefe, which recently ranked #19 on the New York Times’ 100 Best Books of the 21stCentury.

“Say Nothing” is a gripping story of murder and memory in Northern Ireland during The Troubles.

Spanning four decades, the series opens with the shocking disappearance of Jean McConville, a single mother of ten who was abducted from her home in 1972 and never seen alive again.

Telling the story of various Irish Republican Army (IRA) members, “Say Nothing” explores the extremes some people will go to in the name of their beliefs, the way a deeply divided society can suddenly tip over into armed conflict, the long shadow of radical violence for all affected, and the emotional and psychological costs of a code of silence.

The series stars Lola Petticrew as Dolours Price and Hazel Doupe as Marian Price, young women who became potent symbols of radical politics. Anthony Boyle stars as Brendan Hughes, a charismatic but conflicted military strategist, and Josh Finan as Gerry Adams, a leading political operator who would go on to negotiate peace and has always denied having any involvement with the IRA. Maxine Peake stars as older Dolours Price.

“Say Nothing” is executive produced by Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force, creator Joshua Zetumer, Patrick Radden Keefe, Edward McDonnell, Monica Levinson and Northern Ireland native Michael Lennox. The series is produced by FX Productions.

Congrats to Damien on another great project!

This is a time I remember well, this should be interesting.
Gerry Adams voice was always dubbed, when we finally heard his voice it was so disappointing, we all preferred the actor 😆
The Price sisters were famous (or should I say infamous?)

I'm thrilled that Damien will be appearing in this historical drama! And now we have an answer to the mystery around Damien attending Disney+ events

Ellie, glad to have your insights on this part of Northern Ireland's history. My knowledge of the Price sisters mostly comes from the IRA bombings, but I’m not quite sure how I picked that up. It sounds like this series will offer a deep dive into the decades of the Troubles, and I’m considering whether to read the book first or wait until the series airs.

The cast looks fantastic, especially with the incredible Maxine Peake on board!

A new trailer has been released for 'Say Nothing', which premieres this Thursday 14 November!

There is no sign of Damien's character in the trailer, but this first review / preview from Loud and Clear Reviews reveals his role:

Covering everything Say Nothing does over the course of just nine episodes is something of a mammoth task, but it’s one that Zetumer certainly doesn’t shy away from. The series’ writing team really effectively keep things tightly focused, never straying too far from Dolours and her immediate radius, whilst simultaneously offering a coherent picture of the cultural landscape at any given time. Things are never beleaguered by personal drama: everything is connected to politics. Even the way Dolours meets her eventual husband, actor Stephen Rea (Damien Molony), is in part thanks to a heavily political play he starred in.

Say Nothing is available to watch now, on Disney + and Hulu!

I have just finished binging  📺 on Disney+ (couldn’t help myself!), and wow – what a powerful, compelling drama. The story dives right into The Troubles and follows the Price sisters through some intense and deeply moving scenes. I found the portrayal of Dolours and Marian especially engaging; they really carry the story with such raw emotion and complexity, and their journey feels both harrowing and inspiring.

Of course, I was really excited to see Damien’s new role. He plays Stephen Rea, Dolours’ husband – a significant role, but I have to say, it’s disappointingly brief! His character appears only briefly in 2 key episodes, and while he adds depth to Dolours’ story, it feels like there could have been more for him. Still, he makes a strong impact with what he’s given, bringing that familiar charm and intensity we know and love.

Damien first appears in episode 5, “Evil Little Maniacs,” where we catch a brief glimpse of him as Stephen Rea, an actor whom Dolours notices while at the Royal Court Theatre watching his play in London on the night before the bombing. His role expands in episode 7, “Theatre People,” where he and Dolours meet and begin a relationship following her release from prison. While the series doesn’t explicitly depict their wedding or the dissolution of their marriage, we later learn from Dolours in episode 8 that their marriage has ended—a storyline informed by real-life events—as she grapples with the emotional aftermath of her choices and the toll of her trauma.

I’ve post a few screen photos below (not screenshots, actual photos of my TV screen, apologies for the quality) to give a peek of Damien, check out his hair!

p.s question for those who remember Damien's very early work - is anyone else having a 'Tis Pity She's A Whore moment?
