Looking froward to The Hobbit. More Jackson style Tolkien plus Aiden. Sorted.
Saw Argo. It's well worth catching. The utterly nutso true story of how the CIA extracted 6 embassy staff from Iran in 1979, prior to the release of the other Embassy hostages. And they did it by giving them the covers of a Hollywood movie production team, in Iran, during the revolution, there to scout locations for a Star Wars rip-off. As the CIA acknowledged, "There are no good ideas. This is the best bad idea we have." Sad, thrilling and pretty amusing.

Heads up to uk peeps, there is a double bill of Ryan Gosling films on Film 4 tonight and tomorrow - tonight The Notebook and Stay, tomorrow Fracture and Blue Valentine. and while my fave Rosling double bills would be Half Nelson and All Good Things, and Blue Valentine and Drive, The Notebook is such a delightful love story and Blue Valentine is on my list of top films... does a great job at representing the messiness of relationships and it has one of the most (so wrongly) supposedly controversial sex scenes of all time in it. that aside it is just a fab film that leaves, for me an indelible impression.Â
If you've not seen Drive yet either, and you like noir, it's a must see.
I saw Gangster Squad the other night. It's advertised as a gritty thriller but was unfortunately far from it. It was far too cartoonish to be taken seriously and the audience had many laugh out loud moments. This however wasn't a bad thing as I found it hugely entertaining and would definitely recommend it.

Lucky you Becca! My only problem with this film is I am half going to expect Emma Stone to do the Dirty Dancing leap at Ryan Gosling Crazy Stupid Love stylee right in the middle of it.... Kinda monkeys with the suspension of disbelief and immersion in a film.
I noticed Blue Valentine was on and hope I catch it. I'd like to see Drive too. But I have a deep abiding hatred of The Notebook. Just found it boring, cliched and the characters self absorbed.
Over Christmas I saw Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy, the Swedish films. Despite some over simplified moments, I thought they rocked.
Still haven't seen The Hobbit! How did that happen?

Lol, yeah I am usually not drawn to cheesy romance films, maybe the Gosling drew me in and I do have to admit I find it a great Sunday afternoon rainy day film.
I much prefer the original Girl With A Dragon Tattoo film (and the whole trilogy) superb films not to be approached lightly though.
Finally caught up with The Iron lady. I was underwhelmed. I found it artless. I didn't even find it about Alzheimer's. It was about a woman barely being haunted by her past. For once I wasn't too impressed with Streep. She really was doing an impersonation rather than giving a performance.

Yesterday I went to see Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Even though it's not my cup of tea, I was pleasantly surprised, it was very entertaining. Plus it lasts not even 90 minutes which is ideal :) When we were standing in the queue, there was a couple behind us with a little boy, could be 5 or 6, and they couldn't decide whether to see this or some new 3D animation film. I hope they went to see the animation film because the killing in this film is really brutal and explicit, even I had to close my eyes few times :D
No you can rent them or watch them on those movie sites & both are very reasonably priced on Amazon right now! Did you mean "The place beyond the pines"? Ryan Gosling.....Ontario's favourite export!! soon be on dvd for you.

I haven't seen the film yet because it's not released for another month but i do have tickets to see 'Man of Steel', the latest Superman reboot (or re-reboot) and am quietly excited. The trailers look interesting, i've been reading various interviews and Henry Cavill certainly looks the part. So, like i said, quietly excited.
Thought id just say, in the past month I've watched a lot of films but, all i can say is. Of mice and men is a really good film :3 The old black and white version is a lot better then the color version. In my opinion.

Anyway, must dash. Friend about to kill lots of people.
Last film I saw at the cinema was Oblivion - I admit I do have a thing about Tom Cruise (even though I know he's a nutter, lol!). It wasn't bad actually, although I'm positive that he has a clause in his contract that every film has to have a running scene!
We're hoping to see Iron Man 3 in the next week or so...then possibly Man of Steel, although I didn't see the last Superman film.
Last time I saw Of Mice and Men, it was the one with Malkovich and Sinise (tv adaptation?). Besides the basics, and knowing I liked it, I can't say I remember much of it, but it was a long time ago.
Sadly, I'm not looking forward to yet another Superman incarnation. One more, too soon ... Andy yet I'm hoping to see Iron Man 3. There's a slim chance I'll see it this weekend, depending how things go.
So looking forward to Star Trek. Eeek!

I simply don't get the Star Trek thing. I generally like sci-fi films, TV and books, but never got the Star Trek love. However, the trailers for the latest film do look quite interesting, so I may be persuaded to go! Will prob see Iron Man 3 first though...
Totally agree, Pearl. It cracks me up to hear Karl Urban sound increasingly like DeForest Kelley throughout the first movie.
Prada, JJ Abrams did a brilliant job, so it's well worth a look. Was it TOS that you didn't care for or have none of the incarnations done anything for you?
