I know my sister is keen to see the 3D version. I don't usually find it necessary, but it does look cool - on a proper IMAX screen, viewed from the back. Otherwise it's often disappointing. Glad you liked the movie well enough, Prada.

I did get to see Star Trek, and I love it to bits. Benedict Cumberbatch is the most phwoar inducing villain I've ever seen. I'm already inclined towards him but ... well ... phwoar!
Add to that the exemplary regulars, all getting a moment, sometimes just, but there's more movies (surely) to sort that out in. And Peter Weller being, well, Peter Weller. But he's so good at it. Good strong story, nicely done. I'm one happy bunny.

why the heck did I write House Beyond the Pines ? I know that's not the name of the film! Finally seen 'The Place Beyond The Pines'! Initial reaction? Ryan Gosling in 'Drive' and Ryan Gosling in 'TPBTP' are a tad discernably similar, the whole broody moody with an underlying violent streak under pressure thing....but I don't mind it because he is a delight to watch in that mode...and there is just enough character depth to carry it further than just extremely cool and hot Ryan Gosling (we're talking ) with a tragic and compelling story that is far far away from superficial...it is intense, powerful and moving.
without giving away spoilers the second half of the film feels like a different film entirely.
Have a trailer, but it pretty much plot spoiler filled!
Went to see Into Darkness yesterday. And I loved it!
Sherlock and Sylar having a fight on top of a flying machine....what's not to love? Am I the only one amused by the role reversal? - Sylar's gone all logical, and Sherlock has become indestructable!
I'm a big fan of star trek - I'm certainly not a trekkie, but I must've seen every ep of every incarnation at least once. I saw it in 3d and was reminded of when the next generation series started and how excited I was by the cgi....special effects have certainly come a long way since the original series aired!!
My biggest disappointment was Uhura. In the original tv series she was a calm, confident, capable comms officer. I felt that in this film she was mostly relegated to the role of Spock's pouting, foot stamping, girlfriend. Admittedly she had a couple of moments to shine...one at the beginning and one at the end....but mostly she disappointed.
...and the icing on the cake - they had a tribble....a tribble!!
I'm in the middle of watching "The batman legacy" DVD box set. As in my opinion, old batman is a lot better then the new ones. Also i seek to go see "Fast and Furious 6" might as well as i've seen every other one :) Reviews sound good too! x

I like films across all genres really... I used to not be big into superhero films, but The Avengers changed that. I hadn't seen any of the Marvel movies before I went to Comic Con last summer & some of the friends I made there were obsessed with all of them, so I decided to watch. IMMEDIATELY loved them all, as well as The Avengers. So I guess I should give other superhero movies a chance now?! lol.
My fave films include Titanic (I can recite that movie... it's pretty pathetic!), 50/50, Atonement, LOTR/Hobbit, Pride & Prejudice, Disturbia, Driving Lessons, Harry Potter, Silver Linings Playbook, Pitch Perfect, Moulin Rouge, .....I could go on and on haha.
Fave Actors? I'll have to go with Keira Knightley (you'd never guess by my name!), James McAvoy, & Leonardo DiCaprio. I will see any movie that these actors are in!

fifi, I wondered about that tribble. Considering what Bones injected it with, I wonder if that's when they became super reproductive!
Kayla, the Batman Legacy dvd sounds intriguing. I'm assuming it's Keaton to Bale? If they inckuded Adam West, that would be awesome. "There are some days you just can't get rid of a bomb." That first film needs to be acknowledged for the classic that it is. I think Keaton and Bale are my favourite Bats. But I hated The Dark Knight Rises. An incomprehensible villain didn't help.
knightly, X Men First Class must make you very happy - McAvoy and super heroes! Squeeee!

Star Trek was great! Benedict Cumberbatch makes a good villian but I couldn't help thinking that our man would have done equally well! Wishful thinking that he should get a role in a blockbuster?
I'm a huge Superman fan, but not a Superman geek (I haven't read the comics in decades for example) but i'm familiar with the films as well as the variety of tv shows.
I loved this version. Henry Cavill physically was right for the role of Clark Kent/Supes and on a completely shallow note, he is built!!.
I liked the darker tone to this film, i know a few reviews mentioned the lack of humour but given the Batman reboot while having its moments, wasn't exactly a laugh a minute either, this worked in that same context. For me it worked. The cast were excellent: Michael Shannon as Zod was scary intense but his interpretation of Zod to begin with wasn't exactly 'crazy swivel eyed insane', he was bred to be a warrior and a warrior he was. Plus the Kryptonian race was suppose to be a rather stern and unsmiling bunch. I liked Russell Crowe more than i thought i would, same too with Amy Adams. The special effects were stunning and i liked the slightly faded out colouring of the film during the Smallville/pre Supes story, it really and absolutely worked for me.
Now, i'm going into spoiler mode with a bit of speculation.
Spoiler
The scene where Superman destroys the machine that Zod et al unleashed on the earth, when he's flying upwards in that beam of white light at super-speed, did anyone see the face of Christopher Reeve briefly superimposed over Henry Cavill's face? because i'm sure that i did but no one i know who saw the film saw it. It was literally a blink and you'll miss it moment but i'm convinced i saw it.
I notice that Damien recently mentioned in a tweet seeing the film "Before Sunrise" for the first time, saying it was a lovely film & the phone a friend scene was good! I love that scene too!.I only discovered the film & it's sequel a few years ago & have been to see the triquel "Before Midnight" if your a fan of the Hawke/Deply saga & get a chance to see this please do! i dont want to give too much away but i will just say they're living together now & still talking!!

I saw this on Monday and agree with you about Henry Cavill. Perfect casting I think. I enjoyed the film but did think that the last fight scene could have been a little bit shorter.
Regarding the spoiler -
Spoiler
I didn't see what you saw but there is speculation on Digital Spy about it.
Really fancied going to see Wolverine, but I've just discovered that it's only showing in 3D...and will cost me £12.50!
I went to see the most fantastic piece of live theatre last night (feel free to read my review in the theatre thread!) It was totally 3D! It was also a completely unique experience - if I go to see it again it will not be an identical performance - involving actual people performing on a stage specifically for the audience who were there. And they will do the same thing again tomorrow, and the day after - but once the run has finished it will not longer be available. This unique and personal experience cost me the grand total of....£8!! No special offer - that was a full price ticket. Admitedly that is for cheap seats, and I couldn't see a small part of the stage....but I was still able to get a ticket for a mere £8!
How can people complain that it's too expensive to go to the theatre? I won't be going to see Wolverine at the cinema - I'll wait for it to be shown on tv!
(Sorry - I've just realised this is a totally unsuitable place to have posted this rant, although I'm not sure where it belongs? Feel free to move it elsewhere if you want to domino!)

I love old hollywood movies. Some of my favorite movies are from the 20's - 60's. That was really the best time for movies. One of my favorite actors is Charlie Chaplin, an english actor who was famous for silent films. My favorite movie of all time tho is The Godfather from 1972, just a fabulous movie.

The Godfather is one of the greats, a favourite of mine too, il padrino. And it even has an equally great sequel (I pretend the third one never happened).
Favourite oldies of mine include Kind Hearts & Coronets, Sunset Blvd and a lot of other Billy Wilder.

I never cry during movies but when I saw all three films I cried like a fool during every one of them. The worst time was during movie three. The very last scene in the movie Michael Corleone is sitting in a chair and he is old in age - then all of a sudden he fell to the ground - he's dead.Michael Corleone is dead. One of the saddest moments during any movie.
That is so pitiful. Who in the world cries when a notorious mobster dies.

I used to love this show. I saw it in the West End twice. I even saw it on Broadway. But that was twenty five years ago. Now, I found the movie all a bit laughable. And a bit flat. And Russell Crowe ... Can someone please just stop that man? Anna Hathaway was fab and who doesn't love Hugh Jackman? Except he couldn't seem to be able to make it through Bring Him Home. The song's notoriously too high, but still.
But I did enjoy hearing those songs again, even if they do sound creaky. Oh well.

And on Sunday I caught up with the totally over rated Silver Linings Playbook. Bog standard romcom which uses mental illness as a prop for gags. I don't think the portrayal was inaccurate, just unnecessary and limited.

Glad I wasn't the only one not to rave over Silver Linings Playbook. It was alright, but not amazing. I'm not a huge fan of Bradley Cooper anyway.
Went to the cinema for the first time in ages yesterday to see Captain Phillips which is the Tom Hanks piracy film. He's excellent as always and quite a thought provoking film. Would definitely recommend it.
Saw Gravity. It was jaw droppingly thrilling in places ... but it's also a by-the-numbers action pic. The hype made me excited to see it but I was left underwhelmed.

Saw Flight. Was so looking forward to it but it proved to be just plain boring. Great plane crash, of course.
Saw Arthur Christmas. Thought I'd give it a look since I wanted a relaxing Chrissy afternoon. A delightful lovely highly amusing movie. Family rivalries, action packed and the meaning of Christmas. Easily one of the best Aardman films.

I took my daughter to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and she and I both adored it. Stand out parts: the spiders in Mirkwood forest (not good if you're an arachnaphobe, which we aren't), the barrel scene is terrific and Smaug is sensational. Also liked the Necromancer too. I thought my daughter would get a little bored part way through (a bum numbing 161 minutes long) but she was completely engaged throughout. Was also a great crowd in to watch it and the barrel scene was particularly well received (say no more but you have to see it!)
