Saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Great action ... and more great action ... and then, even more great action ... Bit similar to the last great action scene ... And Chris Evans is perfect as the good guy with an understanding of what it is to live by ones morals. Thought they were a bit heavy handed with the theme but it works.

I have a ticket to see X Men Days of Future Past next Friday evening. I adore the X Men movies, though i was late to 'First Class' so i'm so looking forward to seeing this.
Meanwhile, I saw Frank, because it was the only movie on at a good time and local to where I was going to be. So what a fabulous surprise it turned out to be. It starts off quirky, then seems to be more typical as it deals with a band imploding, and then turns out to be a beautiful, touching and funny film about mental health issues. Fassbender is amazing given we can't see his face. Strongly recommend it.

Saw the latest X Men movie ... Days of Future Past? Inclusion of the old cast (who I love) was pretty much unnecessary. Made it all a bit dodgy really. But it grew on me and even though it's no First Class it was pretty darn fab. Fassbender as cool as ever and McAvoy rules, as usual.

The Hooligan Factory - saw it because I like an actor in it. Knew nothing about it. Turns out it's a spoof of hooligan movies. Last - and only - hooligan film I've seen is The Firm with Gary Oldman. Cast were a hoot but as a comedy it was pretty lame.

Hubby and myself took the kids to see How To Train Your Dragon 2 at the weekend and adored it. We loved the first one and sometimes a sequel isn't as good as the first film but we adored it, i'm a big Toothless fan, he rocks! (my daughter and i are reading the books they're based on and the book Toothless is very different to the movie Toothless but both are fantastic in their own right) but we definitely recommend this film! (My daughter and i had a rewatch of the first movie this afternoon when she came home from school and before dinner and it was every bit as fantastic as i remembered- and breathstealingly amazing animation)
I find myself at odds recommending a Tom Cruise film but here I go. The Edge of Tomorrow. with Tom Cruise & Emily Blunt. Fantastic effects, unexpectedly comedic, action packed. TC has basically done more action films than he's done anything else, and he's not a bad actor per say, I just feel he's not a great actor. And action films can become formulaic. But this one is a cut above. If I had any complaint it would be that the extra actors, with the exception of Bill Pullman and Brendan Gleeson, didn't really serve much purpose except for the setting. But it's understandable given the nature of what happens in the film.

Ruby, I loved that first "How to train your Dragon" movie, it was great!
Haven't seen the second one yet, but if it is good as the first one I bet I'm going to like it!
Also not long ago found out that David Tennant is the voice of the How to train your Dragon-audiobook!
And does several cameos in the first movie!
Whimsy, I haven't even think about see that film, I like TC's films but lately they haven't been very good. And I agree with you, he's not a great actor, but he's good in action films.
But, I just watched the trailer and read you interview it gives me hope that this one could be worth to see.
I just don't know what have happen to TC's films lately, they somehow have lost their edge or something. But lets hope this one will give me back my trust for him. I'm surely going to check that out Whimsy!
I've seen several movies recently, cannot recommend 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' enough.. such a beautiful film, touching, funny, aesthetically gorgeous, it is like a painting..but not just visually.
Finally saw 'Anna Karenina'... it has a somehow similar quality.. artistic, tragic.
'Her' (a Spike Jonze film, so knew I'd love it) set slightly in the future, but almost believable for now.... brilliant.
I love my dystopian sci fi so I am longing to see Edge of Tomorrow whimsy! Snowpiercer is also a MUST see, incredible film. Transcendence is also good, but I didn't enjoy it as much mainly because I didn't enjoy Johnny Depp's performance at all.
Really want to see X Men Days of Future Past too Lisa
I want to see Her. It looked interesting. And The Grand Budapest Hotel. Both on on our shortlist for when we have time to rent and sit down to watch.
I have seen things about Snowpiercer on Tumblr, but know nothing about it...
Transcendence trailer didn't convince me at all. Just like Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp has lost his appeal to me. Too many similar performances...
Oh, I have to recommend Life of Pi, though I know I'm late to the party on that one. It was visually stunning! And a slight twist at the end that really added depth to the story.

Her, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Snowpiercer are must sees whimsy, I'd be interested to hear your views on them both.
Johnny Depp spoiled Transcendence for me (sorry Depp heads! )
Loved Grand Budapest Hotel. Utterly charming. And, of course, so civilised.
Saw Anna Karenina recently and ended up enjoying it a lot. What started off as style for style's sake did have an emotional core after all.
X-Men - James McAvoy owned it.
Caught up with Captain Philips. Brilliant. The most exciting and thrilling film I've ever seen. See it as soon as you can, everybody.
Also saw Man of Steel. I like what they were aiming for, but not how they did it. And WTF was that nonsense at the beginning? Jor-El's a dinosaur pilot man of action? .. WTFF?

Pride is worth seeing. The trailer led me to believe it was a darn interesting comedy, which it was, and actually funny too. There was more corn and cliche than I expected however, but come the end it couldn't dull the touching true story and what politics is supposed to be about. Lovely performances too, especially Paddy Considine. I could pop him in my pocket he was such a sweetie.
Turns out the film doesn't get released until next week - I honestly thought I'd missed it! So this was a special screening with a panel afterwards with Andrew Scott, a couple of the other actors and the director. It was interesting to hear how many people in the audience knew the real people from the film and was involved in the miners strike and the Lesbian and Gays for Miners movement. Wish I could have heard more from them.

Thank you for the recommendations UJ, adding Captain Phillips and Pride to my list.
Has anyone else seen The Double? It's a UK black comedy, but has so much more to it.. been so well created.. the flavour and aesthetic of the film, the palette, it is at once urban and dark as well as sophisticated and artistic. (that sounds so pretentious but don't know how to describe it.) It's minimal, stark, and of course my favourite... a dystopia. Not sure why I like them so much, maybe because they make this world look better by comparison. But this dystopia is not an epic sci fi large scale affair.. more domestic and claustrophobic. it's just a very good film, very well made.
I went to see The Guest yesterday. My goodness that was an unusual film! Dan Stevens was the star - latterly in Downton Abbey! He looks so different, buff body , brownish hair and an impeccable (to me) American accent! The second half is much more violent than I imagined it would be but the contrast between the two halves is amazing. Dan is excellent and was wise to move to the US as he wouldn't have had a part like this over here.
However, it got me thinking that our Damien could have easily played the part!
Cheers, domino. Need to figure out the cables to plug my PC into the telly so I can watch things in a bit more comfort. Meanwhile, the link is already added to my bookmarks.

It's usually pretty easy UJ if you have a newer TV set. If your computer has an HDMI port and your TV has an HDMI port connect the ports together with an HDMI cable.
