I really, really can't believe this was 5 years ago tonight! And remember it so well.
The real 'dynamite' in this episode is Damien's performance.
Eternally Special!
A real showcase for Damien's talents - the fluidity of expression, the range of expression in just one scene or even moment, without dialogue, of Albert's angst.. his mystery, his naivety, his vulnerability, his hidden world... the rich ambiguity of his undercover persona.... what is real, what is Albert... and how much do we not know? What has this young man been through and what is he really doing in H Division? (all before we find out).
And that famous speech, so utterly beautifully delivered, while eating the sandwich and drinking the milk, so hungrily.. heart rending!
Oh how Damien portrays Albert in this scene from the cocky young constable to the wounded young man
Although the milk guzzling scene has been a little ruined for me by Damien's story about filming that scene on the podcast!
This episode not only inspired me to join the forum but also to start writing again as I wanted to write an ending for Albert's story. My avatar represents the moment that made me realise what an incredible talent Damien has. That gesture of touching his fingers to his lips after Evelyn kisses him showed such depth of emotion.
I remember watching the milk and sandwich scene for the first time, thinking he must have had to eat and drink loads. Most of the time with eating and drinking scenes you'll notice that people don't really eat anything or just a tiny morsal. I laughed when he went for it. The following day I heard the podcast and heard the number sandwiches and pints of milk he had to eat and drink

He was amazing as Albert, such a totally different character to Hal. I kept wanting to comfort him, he was so unappreciated by the main team. Thought they missed a chance, should have brought him back in the last season.
Totally agree Ellie, there was so much left of Albert's story to tell! To be fair, H Division had their reasons to be suspicious of him, but he was as much a victim of the dastardly Jedediah Shine as anyone else, in the end.

Ooooh something I've seen (Not in person, but on YouTube).
Damien and Anthony Head sharing the stage, very cool Big massive Buffy fan.
Horror has always been my favourite genre, and vampire are my favourite of all the supernaturals.

Sorry to be a pedantic geek (or a geeky pedant?) - especially as I'm so late getting to this - but something isn't right! I know that I missed Damo's first appearence on Ripper Street because I went to see this......
Thanks for pointing it out fifi, Having said in the description I was a month and a day late I then added the date I posted on, instead of the event date. Which is of course 4 November 2013 - now corrected.
It's amazing to think it was nearly 8 years ago Damien appeared on stage in 'Tis Pity! And in all the near 7 years of running the forum, I've never heard from anyone who saw him in it! Which would be so lovely. As the trailer is now disappeared forever, previously our nearest thing to a glimpse of the play, last year's beautifully made and performed BBC Radio 3 production was a total gift. Utterly wonderful!
